On the exotic side, the Australian group, Ten Part Invention made a stop in Chicago on their first visit to the USA. On the main stage, they performed tight arrangements of compositions mainly written by saxophonist, Sandy Evans. The set pointed to the bands varied sources of inspiration.
Members of the ensemble also performed in various combinations the next day, including a remarkable trio lead by Evans. Her long and forceful solo on her own “Skeddaddleology” was full of ideas. Also John Pochée delivered a solo whose musicality and articulation revealed what a great drummer he is.
